Engineers as Teachers (AME490) Course


Undergraduate students develop and deliver exciting, hands-on activities on ongoing research to underserved K-12 children and their families. Students learn how to develop and conduct hands‐on science and engineering courses for underserved children and their parents. Following a 4‐6 week training in educational psychology, lesson planning, evaluation and motivation, students go out into the community and conduct 10‐12 hour courses in schools. Previously, students have developed instructional materials for and taught Cardiovascular Mechanics, Aeronautics, Science of Sporting Equipment, Structural Color, Renewable Energy, Biomechanics, Physics of Sailing etc.
